Pulmonary function test (PFT) is a noninvasive breathing test showing how well the lungs work.
It consists of several tests that measure lung capacity, lung volumes and diffusion capacity. This information can help your health care provider diagnose and decide best treatment option to improve your respiratory symptoms.
Spirometry is one of the common test performed during Pulmonary function test. Your doctor can some times request only spirometry to get quick overview of your lungs on how well you can breathe air in and out, if you are wheezing, short of breath or coughing.
Another test that can be requested by your doctor is spirometry and the diffusion capacity of oxygen. These tests provide information about how well you can breathe air in and out as well as how much oxygen molecules pass through your lung lining into the bloodstream.
This test is not commonly requested, however some doctors or specialists will request this test to measure the strength of your respiratory muscles. This test can not be performed on its own, it’s always requested along one of the above tests.
One of the Respiratory therapist/certified respiratory educator will educate patient on asthma or COPD self management tips. They will also review the inhaler techniques and advise on proper inhaler use.
Methacholine challenge test is for patients 6 years of age and above.
For patients with symptoms suggestive of asthma but without clear diagnostic evidence, we perform methacholine challenge testing. This highly sensitive test measures airway hyper-reactivity, allowing us to confirm or rule out asthma and guide personalized treatment plans.
Mannitol challenge test is for patients 12 years of age and above. An alternative to the methacholine challenge, mannitol testing is a quick and safe method to assess bronchial hyperresponsiveness. It is commonly used in the diagnosis of asthma, especially for patients with exercise-induced symptoms. This test helps to ensure an accurate

Our ABG testing assesses the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood, giving us critical information about lung function and the efficiency of oxygen exchange. This test is essential in diagnosing respiratory failure and determining if a patient requires supplemental oxygen therapy.
